About Dr. Emon

Dr. Omar Faruk Emon is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of New Haven. Since joining UNewHaven in August 2021, Dr. Emon has been actively engaged in teaching, research, academic services, and community outreach. He also leads the Smart Fabrication Lab at UNewHaven, where students are involved in cutting-edge research on additive manufacturing. Dr. Emon specializes in additive manufacturing technologies, with a research focus on the additive manufacturing of smart polymers, printed electronics, and 3D bioprinting. His team has developed new additive manufacturing systems for printing functional polymers and is actively exploring 3D printing solutions for biomedical applications.

Before joining UNewHaven, he served as academic staff at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. During his time at Cornell, he mentored students in their research projects and managed a design lab at the Meinig School of Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Emon earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Akron, Ohio. His dissertation focused on 3D Printing of ionic liquid-based soft polymeric pressure sensors and their applications. He received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh.

In his role as an educator, Dr. Emon aims to foster an environment where students are not just curious learners but also active contributors to innovative solutions that make a societal impact. Dr. Emon is committed to advancing the frontiers of engineering knowledge, inspiring and equipping the next generation of engineers with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in the ever-evolving world. By integrating academia with industry, he strives to bridge the gap between theoretical understanding and practical application.
